Hovr Slim - Troubleshooting FAQ

TOP REASONS THE BRACKETS WON'T CONNECT:

  1. The bracket is too low in the shelf and the excess material above it is interfering with the brackets locking together. The thickness of material above the top of the shelf should be no greater than ¼”. It is best to have the bracket towards the top of the shelf, not necessarily perfectly centered in the shelf.

  2. The wall is bowed and the wall bracket is too snug against the wall, causing it to bend. This will cause the bracket to fail to be able to engage with the shelf bracket successfully as both need to be straight in order for the two brackets to engage correctly. This ties in with the next possible cause below and can be further compounded by a long bracket. You can try loosening the screws slightly in the wall bracket to help back it off and diminish that curve that may be happening due to the overtightening and bowed wall.

  3. The shelf is very long. The longer the bracket runs, the more small issues like a bow in the wall or the bracket depth being not quite right can compound. It also just makes it generally more difficult to engage the two brackets as there is a lot more length of bracket to snap into place at once. A bracket running 8 or 10 feet has much less tolerance for a small bend in the wall and can be trickier to connect than a smaller more manageable sized one.

    4. The bracket is too deep in the shelf. The shelf bracket should be flush with the back of the shelf. Too deep, and you will have issues getting the wall bracket and shelf bracket to connect due to a difficulty of access, and the assembly will be impossible. We always recommend you measure your brackets when you have them on hand before cutting your channel to avoid any complications late in the process.

TOP REASONS THE SHELF IS WIGGLY / SLANTING:

  1. The shelf is too heavily loaded or you have exceeded the depth/loading recommendations. Our brackets are very strong, but the Hovr Slim is built to prioritize a lower profile, and has a lower maximum weight capacity than the stronger, thicker Hovr Classic. If you are putting a lot of weight on the front edge of the shelf, or have significantly exceeded the recommended depth of 8", some forward slanting may naturally occur. If you want to load heavy, the Hovr Classic should be your first choice. You can check out our Hovr Slim Loading Recommendations here.

  2.  The bracket is too shallow in the shelf. By removing the stabilizing force of the material on the back of the shelf if the bracket sticks out too far, you will reduce the stability of the connection and the bracket could easily slant forwards/downwards from the weight placed on it. The bracket in the shelf should be flush with the back of said shelf.
