Can I just clip the male and female components in place and leave it hanging there?

We like to think of the Hovr Bracket system as the next step in the evolution of the French Cleat. A tried and true classic, but with limitations, the French Cleat uses a similar system but with higher woodworking investment, some limitations due to materials, and without the security of the set screw feature that locks the Hovr Brackets together. Below you can see a basic demonstration of the standard French Cleat concept:

As you can see in the the above image, a simple bump from below could send the fixture tumbling from the wall. The Hovr Bracket System evolves this concept by adding additional features like the set screw. This is why we always recommend you use the provided set screws (and/or glue) to lock the brackets together. We always recommend the set screws as they can be easily removed, whereas glue is a more permanent solution.

If you do not use glue OR set screws and whatever you attach to it does not have sufficient weight to ensure no one can lift it or make it jump up, it will come off. In essence, the Hovr bracket system is a supercharged french cleat, and still needs to be secured one way or another.
