Sometimes our customers like to use the Hovr bracket to create shelving for pantries or other storage where items are frequently added and removed from the shelf on a near-daily basis. Oftentimes, these are heavier items (large cans, 2 Litre bottles, etc.) - and this creates vibration with each transfer. This matters over time for two key reasons:
First, the set screws will embed themselves gradually into the inner ledge of the male bracket. Normally, this is not an issue, however, if you have over-tightened them when installing, this can be strong enough to bend both inner ledges of the male and female bracket. You’ll be forced to tighten them over and over again, which can lead to a shelf that wiggles. For this reason, it’s extra important to make sure you don’t install your set screws too tightly in frequent transfer applications.
Secondly, with a standard installation into drywall, there is another thing to look out for. Over time the narrow bottom edge of the female bracket touching the drywall, will gradually embed into the drywall with the vibration of objects being added to and removed from the shelf. This is especially pronounced when you perform a semi-exposed or exposed bracket installation. The solution for this is the use of a metal epoxy, left to cure for 2 days, to snugly fix the bracket in place, limiting the capacity to embed into the wall (see the image below for instruction on where to place your glue). Note that this is worth doing on a shelf that see’s frequent loading and unloading of heavy objects, even if it is mounted on a tile, concrete or other hard wall surface. Although we always recommend/use flathead set screws, they can still be “pointy” enough to gradually dig themselves into the ledge of the bracket.
